Parenting and the Power of Curiosity

It's so important to approach everything that you watch, everyone that you talk to with an element of curiosity, right?
Is this mine?
Is this my opinion?
Do I need this?
Do I need this information?
Do I need this opinion?
Does it help me, right?
So asking questions about what you're hearing
what you're seeing
what you're sensing is so, so important.

They're being raised in a day and age where they have access to – ‘everything’.
they're watching people on YouTube, right?

They're watching videos.
Like that's their TV.
they don't sit and watch TV like we did.
Or they have earphones.
They have headphones in their ears while they're playing games and people are just
kind of mindlessly chatting,
And all of that gets absorbed.
All of that, you know, and there are times that you forget to ask.
You forget to ask, do I choose to accept or reject this?

we just prefer to hear people talking,
That's comforting to us.
But we forget,
like we forget that those opinions and those words,
they have impact,
they have meaning.
And it's incredibly important to just
remember to pause and remember to take it all with a grain of salt, right?
No one's jamming their opinion down our throat but,
we're exposed to opinions chronically.
We are exposed to opinions chronically and it just takes a little bit of healthy detachment.
Not detachment in like an emotionless sense, in a curiosity sense.
And approaching these pauses, these necessary detachments with curiosity,
like, wait a sec,
I don't know that I believe that,
and that's okay.
